Information on Marcellus Shale
Support your Wildlife and Waterways Conservation Officers with your vote on Marcellus Shale Impact fee legislation on SB1100.

1.    Include the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission in any and all Marcellus Shale Tax bills brought to a vote this session.  Give our Officers the opportunity to secure the tools, equipment, hire the personnel and retain the people we need to continue our conservation work.  Don’t let Pennsylvania repeat industry mistakes of the past.  Help us protect Pennsylvania’s waterways and natural resources for future hunting, fishing and boating generations.  If there is a need for a tax…then some of the money must go to conservation; our officers are the conservation law enforcement professionals.

Did You Know?

*Our Officers work with the state Department of Environmental Protection to determine whether  drilling operations will impact natural waterways, including fishing streams, lakes and other water sources.

*Our Officers are tasked with dealing with violations of those permits such as when drillers take water from unapproved sources or dump untreated water from the drilling process back into streams and lakes.

*Waterways Conservation officers visited drilling sites over fall and winter of 2009 and found more than 30 percent had potential violations, which included potential stream encroachments and other problems.

*The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission estimates the ability to field enough officers to meet the increased demands with as little as $1.6 million per year.

*Wildlife Conservation Officers are working with Waterways Conservation Officers to ensure compliance with drilling operations on Pennsylvania Game Lands.
